Trilafon

Trilafon

I know that Trilafon helps to reverse some schizophrenia symptoms. Does it help in case of psycho-motor agitation? In another words when a person becomes hyper, loud and agitated and we need to sedate him a little, to calm him down. I will appretiate any information about it. Thank you.

trilafon is an older antipsychotic  that is indeed used in schizophrenia;
nowadays it is seldom used since there are newer meds, the so called atypical
antipsychotics.  if the agitated patient described were having a manic
episode, trilafon might be used;  however, since the possibility  of tardive
dyskinesia is much higher with trilafon than the newer antipsychotics there
are few if any situations in which it would be recommended.

my psychiatrist put me on trilafon for severe ocd and paranoia-- though i have never been diagnosed as schizophrenic.  two hours after taking the drug, i was in the er.... feeling like i was going to have a seuizure/convulsion or die.  it was NOT A FREAKIN panic attack-- but my doctor doesn't believe me.  i have been on risperdal, zyprexa, seroquel, haldol and mellaril and NONE of these "dopamine" drugs really work well for me... the side effects KILL ME... personally, i wouldn't take the trilafon.  i have heard there is  new anti-psychotic called geodone (sp?)-- but i cannot afford it-- further, my analyst says i would have to have EKGs if i took it... so, i cannot afford that either.

anyway-- stay away from the trilafon.
