Both my mother and my father were in a bad car accident in 1991. They both had cronic pain since then. They were on Oxycontin. As the years progressed they became more and more addicited to the pills. They would crush them and snort them one after another until they would be completely different people. They begain selling their pills to make ends meet, but than they would be out of meds, so they would have to go on the streets and find whatever they could, coke, methedone, herion, roxycodne, you name it they were doing it. Both of my parents always said it was the worst thing that had ever happened to them. They told their docoter they wanted weaned off, but he didn't take away their persciptions, he just gave them nonnarcotic patches, and pills to stop stomach sickness. There was one point that I hadn't heard from my parents for a few days so I went to thier home to find them passed out, I made sure they were still breathing and put them to bed. On May 6, 2005 my mother couldn't handle the withdrawls anymore and she commited suicide in front of my father and my husband. My father went into a treatment program and is now off everything. I didn't write this to upset anyone or make anyone feel bad for me, but to tell you that if you need help go to a treatment center for help. It's not easy. You all are wonderful people and you deserve to beat this drug. Email if you want to talk....I have plenty more I could tell you about my parents.
One of my best friends was addicted to this mess. I would watch him crush it up and snort it and i never did anything until he got sick. he ended up with pancreitis. People don't realize that this goes through your entire body, blood stream. He lost his wife and children, and a wonderful job. It can get that bad if you think if can''t happen to you. He said the same thing the first couple times he popped pills. Get help. I held him like a little baby for over a week while he vomited, cried, and shook uncontrollably. I couldn't belive this was a pill man, he could have been shooting up for all it was worth.
I need help....
I am currently withdrawing from Oxycontin and am going through terrible withdrawl symptoms....
Is there any OTC drug or any other ideas that would reduce the symptoms...I need to get off Oxy and would appreciate any help.
Currently very ill....

To the guy with the Oxcy problem. I have used it for extreem lower back pain. Chronic back pain. Disabling back pain! And yet, I cannot seem to find a doctor that wants to prescibe it. How in the world do you get it for "depression? I keep getting the excuse, " You will get liver damage." I would rather take the risk and reduce my pain, then worry about some future possible, problem with my liver. Chronic pain CAUSES depression! Like suicide! I have found that Methadose works as well as Oxcycodone and you don't have the ups and downs you have with Oxcy. Also, the withdrawal from Oxcy are devistating. After ony 1 1/2 months of usage, unbelievable withdrawals!!!!! I have never heard of any doctor prescribing Oxcycodone for depression???
Good luck with your depression. I agree with the other answer to your question. "Time to go a different direction." Whenever you use medication to solve a problem, you end up with a problem solving the medication. ..BD1171
Hello, I would first like to start things off by saying that i was raped for the most of my childhood. So as i got older, i began to experiment with weed and other petty drugs. I first used oxycontin yesterday, and i really loved the effect that it brought me. Today i have been very tired and have had heavy perspiration, could these be signs of withdrawl?
Thanks,
Gred

Hi, I am also a recovering alcoholic addict and would concur with the doc's response-find a good therapist trained in addictions. I am currently withdrawing off of Cymbalta (45 mg qd) and it is absolutely horrible. It is as bad, if not worse then when I withdrew from Effexor (and the booze 11 years ago!). I would not recommend it but you need to consult with an Addiction Psychiatrist as you may have an underlying mental health issue. These docs have special training and are the best suited in determing what medications would best help you get stabalized and support you ability to refrain from another relapse. Good luck-and hope you can get some support! (AA and NA are great-what have you got to lose?)
Cymbalta,
I have been addicted to Oxycontin as well. I'm now clean about 2 years...if you need someone to talk to please email me or go to my web site and get help...Jack

Your response is valid and appreciated. I assume you are a doctor. If so, I am attempting to get some feedback on the basic workings of Cymbalta on the CNS. Regardless of its lack of research because it is a new drug, the fundementals are the same. Cymbalta works on both Seritonin and norephinephrine. Because of this, would it help or hurt the withdrawl affects from Oxycontin/opiates? I recognize my problem and will seek theraphy, but for the first step, i need to get off of the Oxycontin with the least amount of withdrawl. Because I was taking oxycontin to help my depression,, I thought it may be reasonable to try Cymbalta for a short period of time why I get into therapy. Cymbalta provides a reuptake inhibitor for norephinephrine. When withdrawling from Oxy's, is this something that could help the CNS and alliviate withdrawl symptoms? Or is Oxy's effect on the CNS such that the Cymbalta will make it worse? I am looking for a medical explanation. I anticipate your response
Its a relatively new drug and the side effects are not completely known yet, and certainly there is no clinical information re its relation to oxytocin. I suggest that you deal with your depression without medication but look at what you are afraid to look at with a competent therapist as your guide. Since you have been addicted, this means that you are using medication to avoid dealing with your interior mind...time to change directions.
