Weaning off of pain medication thats a form or heroin

My mom is currently suffering extreme anxiety, stress, and all of the above right now because she is being weaned off of her pain medication that she was given after her surgery that was also a form of heroin. She cant stop crying and nothing seems to calm her down. The last thing I want to do is to bring her to the ER beacuse I know that it will make her even more stressed. What should I do?

She can be temporarily switched to an antidepressant medication while weaning off of the pain medicine..your doctor knows how to do that.

tell her to ask her doctor about clonodine.  It should help calm her down and will not hurt her.  Most doctors will not hesitate to give it and it could really help her. We'll keep her in our prayers.  God Bless, Tom

I am weaning off pain meds...about 250 mg a day of oxycodone...using this medication called Suboxone...it relieves alot of the symptons....I also take Lexapro. With suboxone you have to completely stop taking the other pain killers or you get sick. If you are under 50 to 75 mg of hydrocodone or oxycodone I wouldn't even bother with the suboxone...but if she is coming down off a serious amount I would consider it.

Suboxone is the only way to go when getting off of Opiates of any kind. I was on Methadone and after months of slowly lowering my dose I was able to switch to Suboxone/Buprenorphine. My husband  and I both developed an addiction to Morphine and Oxycontin and thought we could get off of it with Methadone. After two years it was obvious that Methadone was a trap so we found someone to prescribe Sub/Bup and eight months later I was free. It has not been easy since, but I haven't used any opiates for two years now. There were few physical withdrawals and some other meds allowed me to sleep and not get too depressed.
