Zoloft and Gastroparesis

Is it common for a doctor to prescribe Zoloft (25 mg) to help treat Gastroparesis?

There is no evidence of any imbalance of brain chemicals in people who suffer mental problems from those who don't.  There is no evidence of serotonin deficiency in anyone.  ssris merely allow the brain to use serotonin longer, it doesn't make any more than what you already had.  Drugs merely relieve symptoms, don't cure anything.

You received good advice already, but check with your doctor to make sure he was giving you zoloft for that, rather than what you might have said about being depressed.

First, get a different doctor.  Second, don't take the Zoloft -- why get into that can of worms for an intestinal problem?  Third, this is most often connected with diabetes, so you might not even have it.  Fourth, go see a holistic nutritionist and find out what in your diet and life is causing this, and in the meantime try drinking some aloe juice and/or taking deglycerized licorice (DGL) and see if it helps, or some peppermint oil caps.  This is a digestive problem, not something that requires getting on an ssri.

I wish there was a test you could get to measure proper  levels of brain chemicals.
I was on Annafranil at 109 lbs went to 185 lbs, then tried Prozac didn't agree with me,
then Paxil, was on that for years went to 230 lb.  Now I am switching to Zoloft because
the Paxil, isn't doing what it is supposed to anymore. Coming off Paxil is hard, feels like you have the flu.

Thanks for your response.  I am thinking he may have wrote down the wrong medication because I am not depressed and nor did I indicate that to him.  The doctor in question is a Gastroenterologist and I started seeing him due to stomach problems.  I have been told that I have Gastritis, Peptic Ulcer, Gastroparesis (I am also diabetic).....but never a true diagnosis as of yet.  These problems have been occurring off and on for the past 4 years.  I have had 2 endoscopies, a colonoscopy, MRI's, CAT scans and they have not found anything.  My mother passed away from Lupus 3 years ago but I have had an ANA test for Lupus and was told it was negative.  Do you have any idea what could be the issue?  My symptoms include not being able to digest my food properly, naseau, vomiting and severe pain right under my breast bone.
