Zoloft or BuSpar?

Zoloft or BuSpar?

My doctor has reccommended I go on Zoloft for my anxiety. After researching on the internet I realize I have GAD but do not have panic attacks which it seems Zoloft  is for. Should I suggest to him I might be better on BuSpar or another medication or is Zoloft also given for Generalized Anxiety? I  also take meds for hypertension, thyroid, hormones, and reflux. Thanks

Ann,

Zoloft as well as the other SSRI's are indicated for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, OCD, and depression to name a few.  Buspar is also helpful for GAD but is most often used adjunctively with another agent.  I hope this was helpful.

Sincerely,

HFHS MD-JM

I also have GAD and have been taking Zoloft for over two years.
It seems to help me. I think Zolof is for anxiety as well
as pnic attacks.

I have taken paxil, zoloft and now prozac for depression.  The problems that never seem to go away is worrying all the time and always being tired.  The ssri's help with the depression but not the worrying and always wanting to sleep.  Do you have any suggestions?

MY daughter is 9 yrs. old. we have been taking her to doc. since she was 3.She has an anxiety problem, also panic attacks. She has mood swings and outbursts out of frustration. When she was 5 she was diagnoised with lyme diease. she was treated with anti biotics & also, at that time she had an EEG & there was a slight seizure disorder found. She was put on depakote at that time, she is till on it along with busbar & zolof. She still has problems & we are looking for a new doctor, because we feel at a dead end with the one she has been seeing for about10 mos. Since the beginning of this year she has missed alot of school. She had a panic attack with severe chest pain & feeling of suffocation so bad that we took her to the ER, they gave her a shot of adivin 2mg. that took almost an hour to work, when it finnally did they sent us home with a RX. She was not functional for about 8 days, with the same feelings most of the time -- not as severe but continued shortness of breath,& mild to severe pain. When she feels like she can't stand "it" in school she bites her arm. She was also out of school for 4 days because she couldn't stop making a grunting , kind of growling sound. She wants to be normal & not have to take meds. especially when she still feels bad. She breaks our heart! sometimes she seems to be ok, but not very often. I don't know how she does it. She enjoys sports, & art, & lots of things, but life is very hard.
