Zoloft reaction with alcohol

Zoloft reaction with alcohol

I have been taking 5mg of zoloft per day for the last 75 days.   Occasionally I would have several glasses of wine without a reaction.  On the 4th of July I consumed appoximately 8-10 glasses of wine over a 3 hour period.  Approximately 1 1/2 after consumming my last glass of wine, I had a black out for several hours, although my guests said that I was walking and talking to them...even telling jokes.   At the age of 46 I had never had such a reaction.  Could the Zoloft cause such a black out.

P.S. Over the last 15 years I would on occasion drink 2 to 3 times this amount without complication, otherthan mild intoxication (I weigh 220lbs).

The most probably cause is the alchohol itself. It would certainly merit a physical examination with your physician. The dose of 5mg is almost impossible, do you mean 50 mg.  If it is that, then I think the combination of zoloft and drinking is the cause. Its recommended to not add any other cns stimulants or depressives when taking antidepressant medication. Also, your metabolism changes with age.

i have been taking 75 mg of zoloft for about a year now and am noticing myself a more intense reaction to alcohol, but only in the last few weeks.  I dont drink alot but the effects of the alcohol seem a bit more intense.  I intend to see my doctor soon about reducing my dosage of zoloft and eventually easing off of it.  Im not sure if the exposure time to the medication has any effect on its reaction with alcohol but if i find out any info i will post it.
