ativan adverse effect

ativan adverse effect

Dear Doctor:

I started taking ativan four months ago and continued for two months. During the two-month period, I experienced severe tireness and blurred vision. At that time, I didn't know I need to report those symptoms to my doctor. ( I was taking 0.5 or 1 mg per day. )

After I stopped taking it, I still have blurred vision but less tireness.

So basically, I had been taking Ativan for two months with those serious side effect, I am wondering if that would cause damage to my body.

Thank you

Sincerely

Frank

Dear Frank

The most frequent adverse effects associated with Ativan use are sedation, dizziness, weakness and unsteadiness. Even though difficulties in eye-hand coordination are commonly seen, blurred vision is observed in very few people. With the duration and dose of Ativan you have taken, it is uncommon to have long term effects on your body.  I would recommend that you talk to your doctor about concerns and have your eyes checked by an Ophthalmologist to rule out any causes for your blurred vision.

Sincerely
HFHS-M.D.

Once you stop taking the Ativan those symptoms will go away. Remember though that any benzodiazapine is addictive and will give other withdrawal effects which may last a week or two. since you are on a low dose the withdrawal should not be all that bad.

Frank, You are on a very lose dose of Ativan and for a short period of time.

I had the blurred vision and tiredness and many physical symptoms of anxiety. I had every test that is made, includind eye exams. All the symptoms are from the anxiety and depression.

I have been on the Ativan as needed for almost 2 years now. I take it when I feel extremely anxious. I cut the pill in half and it is just enough to help me.

I also have been with out using the Ativan for weeks at a time. I have had no withdrawal symptoms nor problems. I would not worry about addiction.

The best thing is to have all the tests done to rule out everything. Then you can decide if you should continue the Ativan.

All medications, even Over the counter have side effects. You have to decide if the benefits out weigh the risks.

good luck,Julie DZ

I've been on Xanax for 3 years, 2 mg per day, and I DO get blurred vision from it too, and after several trips to the opthalmologist we figured out it was because I have badly dry eyes as a side effect (and dry mouth too). Solution? Use eye drops. It also gives me photophobia, as it slightly dilates my already large pupils. So sometimes I have eye pain.

Of course benzodiazepines cause tiredness! Other then those two symptoms I can't think of any symptoms I've had at all from any benzo.
