be polar and methadone

be polar and methadone

my husband was diagnosed as bi-polar 20 years ago, I think my son age 27 is also bi polar but he refuses to believe it. He started using methadone "to feel normal" but he is far fron normal. He is angry sometimes, tired, but other times too loud and wild. He gets upset if I try to talk about the methadone (he goes to a clinic now, before he got it from friends). If I could get him to go to a psychiatrist, would he be able to take the meds along with the methadone? This whole situation is putting a lot of stress on my husband and he does not handle stress very well, not to mention the stress on me worrying about the mental health of both of them. I s this methadone stuff going to make getting bi-polar under control harder? What should we do? Please help  thank you

Methadone is not a treatment for bipolar, but is generally used to help people stop an addiction.  Your son needs to see a psychopharmacologist to help him find the right medication he can use along with methadone.  His history is important and finding a medication should be done by the treating physician.
