depression

Can a person suffering from depression do something that is totally out of character for them? Can a person steal because they are suffering from depression?

Stealing, in this instance, could also be a form of self-destruction or a way to ask for help.
I've sped when I've been unwell.  It's almost like you're daring someone to help.  (Maybe even daring them not too as well.)  Either way, you're not taking responsibility.

My advice would be to get treatment for the depression and the underlying issues.

That is not part of the syndrome of depression as we know it...not at all...but, if a person is desparate and not thinking clearly, certainly that kind of error in judgement could be made..
