divided doseage-serzone

I started on serzone about 12 days ago, I just moved up to the 300 mg a day dose. 150 day 150 night.
My doctor (DO) said that if I did not like the side effects during the day to just take the whole thing (both pills) at night.
Will it still work like it is supose to if I do this? Seems to me that there is some reason that it is given in 2 doses instead of one.
Could you please explain.
Thank You for your time!

Dear Kathy,

Serzone is an effective antidepressant.
The recommended dosing schedule is twice a day, due to it's half life.
Adjustments may be made. Since Serzone may be sedating, some patients can not tolerate a large dose in the morning, they may take a smaller dose or omit the A.M. dose.  Some patients remember to take their medications once a day instead of twice a day.
These adjustments may effect the treatment initially, but not longterm as the medication may accumulate in the body.
Discuss your concern with your doctor.

Respectfully,
