drug interactions

Hi. I recently (3 days ago) started taking Buspar. (start 20mg a day, however is going up in about 3 days to 40mg-hope i got those mg correct) I also take Xanax on rare occassions when i get panic attacks.

I get the panic attacks when I have PAC (premature artirial contractions-might be PVCs not sure) Anyhow, they set off the anxiety-or the anxiety sets them off, am not sure, its a vicious circle. So-Doctor put me on 25 mg a day of Tenormin because the PVCs upset me so much, to try to control them.

MY queastion-can I mix all this stuff up? (also am on Primarin)
I like to take the Buspar at bedtime, would also like to take the Tenormin at night.
If I take a Xanax will it hurt anything? (like--me... :-)
Thanks for your time-much appreciated.
Incase you need to know-am 36-132pds-5'4

Dear Kathy
Benzodiazepines such as Xanax, Ativan have limited effect on pulse, blood pressure and cardiac rhythm. Primarin can increase Benzodiazepine levels in the blood. But the side effects depends on how much Xanax you are taking in a day. Buspar does not have cross reactivity with Benzodiazepines. I am unaware of any significant interaction between Buspar and Tenormin. Tenormin is a beta blocker which usually reduces heart rate and so is contra indicated inpatients with severe bradycardia. I would recommend that you talk to your doctor in detail about your concerns. I hope this information is helpful to you.

Sincerely
HFHS-M.D.

I have been reading some things around the forum that says Buspar is not good at treating anxiety-yet they sell it (commercials on TV even) as an anti-anxiety drug.
What do you think?
