drug side effects

my son recently started taking Paxil for OCD.  Soon after starting he has experienced two extreme bouts of paranoia.  This is something totally out of his character for 24 yrs that I have known him.  He became extremely agitated and did not make sense in what he discussed with me.  I would like to know if this medication can trigger paranoia such as this.  He is also taking Dilantin for seizures and has taken this for 4 yrs.  .He started the paxil approximately 3-4 weeks ago.

That is not a common effect,but certainly a possibility. The way to find out is to stop it. You should talk with the treating psychiatrist.

My daughter just spent the last two months numb as a side effect from taking Depacote. I still don't think her psychiatrist believes it was a side effect of the drug, even though the numbness disappeared as soon as she stopped taking it. All drugs have side effects, common or not. Use with caution, and remember that your gut instinct is sometimes more accurate than your doctor.
