haplessness

I've had problems in the past with hapless feelings and experiences.  The areas of my life this affects is relationships and job instability.  I define hapless as:  no matter how hard I put energy into something, the results never work out favorabily for me.  It's like I don't fit into society very well and it feels like the world works against me.  This has been such a problem that even my health has suffered, physically & mentally and has gone on for yrs.

I am taking zoloft for depression and I've tried psychotherapy to no avail.  Is there a name for this type of syndrome?  Any treatment options?  Please help!
