klonopin wafer question

hi,

i have been weaning off of klonopin after going on it to get off of xanax. i am in the last stage of weaning no before i go off completely and now am on the klonopin wafers instead of the tablets. my question is this - i see in the drug information that you should not crush or split the tablets, but it doesn't say why you shouldn't do this. i am concerned because some of the wafers are already crushed when i open them and i am worried that this will cause them to lose their effectiveness. also the wafers that i have are .25 and my doctor want me to take half of that 2x a day. so again, is it safe to split the wafer? and should i then throw out the other half instead of saving it  for the next dosage?

I wouldn't worry about the wafers being broken at this stage of your withdrawal, at this dose level...any change would be insignificant.
