medication and school

I am fighting with my sons special education teachers.  They are taught that if bipolar even existed it would be in the millions.  They feel he is not bipolar, because he finally after 5-6 years is stable.  They tell me that the medications are causing him to not be able to focus and have memory problems.  They are pushing me to take him off all meds. to see if he really is bipolar or not.  My son used to cycles every three weeks, he was like doctor jeckle and mister hide.
Curent medications.  1,000 mg. of Depakote at night, Zyprexa 5 mg., strettera 75 mg. now down to 25 mg. after we put him on Zoloft this summer.  He just took him off the Zoloft, DDAVP for urinating at night.  When we added the Zoloft he went hypomanic for 6 weeks, so we added 125 mg. of Depakote in the mornings.  After all of this he finally stopped cycling.
Due to the school pressure, we have recently taken him off Zoloft, Strettera, Zyprexa, and is only taking 1,000 mg. of Depakote.
What is your oppinion on taking kids off their medications until the next  major episosed like having to be hospitalized for stabilization.

There is another forum here on medhelp regarding children's behavior, and you might get a better answer there. This is always a difficult question, but unless you try to get off medications, you will never be sure that they are really needed..people grow and change, and sometimes the side effects of too much medications makes things worse when they don't need to be.
