mental retardation

My daughter was dg in the first grade with mild retardation, I never had any behavior problems until she turn thirteen years old, and then she started to be very emotional, and manipulative, would result to bezarr behaviors to get her way, she would display psycotic symtoms only when she wanted something and could not get it.  When she was seen by the psychiatrist she was given zoloft, she was find for years then had a relaps she then was given resperdal since then she has got worse and now she has agressive, defiate, obsession, impulsive,s
angry and hostile behaviors. Doctors keep trying to treat her with psycotic medications, and has been dg with several disorders, anxiety, agitation, irritability, behavior disorders, biplar mania, and no medicine has seem to help her, the only thing that came close to calming her down was bruspar. She is fearful at night to sleep in her bed at the age of 20 years old now, I never seen this type of behavior before and I don't know what to do. She only seem to get violent with her parents when she doesnt get her way. She is not sociable and she keep doing bezarr things, I think she does it for attention but I am not sure. I am confused on what medicine is right for her since nothing seems to work. I don't know if because of her mental retardation that these medicines has been good for her.  Please advise me on what I could do to help her. She has been in and out of mental hospitals 10 times in one year and nothing has helped her. The doctor is now trying to treat her with zyprexa and I am not sure this is a good ideal.

I am sorry that I can not be of any help here.  This is a complicated clinical case and any advise I give could lead you astray.  At this point, you have to rely on good doctors, and possibly think about long term care treatment, if that is possible.  I don't if you have tried it, but as a long shot talk to your doctor about experimenting with a period of no medications, on the theory that with marginal mental skills, the numbing effect of most of these medications may make it harder for her to cope with her life transitions.
