no sleep, anxiety, muscle twitches, nausea...HELP!

I was on Depot Lupron for 6 months, then Depot Provera before having surgery for endometriosis. Coming off these drugs I had about 3 months of constant headaches. Then after that had a horrible attack that woke me from a dead sleep  My heart thumping, sweating, dizzy, tingly numbness, nausea, abdominal & bowel discomfort and felt like I couldn't get enough air. It lasted about 3 hours. The next day, totally wiped out and loss of appetite. Doctor prescribed Xanax said it was panic attack. I have no history of that. Slowly it seemed to get better only happening around my period. After 3 mo. I got pregnant. Had a hard pregnancy. With Severe Hyperemisis and RLS for 9 mo. I was on Zofran, dexamethazone, phenergan.  Then at 29 weeks I could not sleep and felt I was going crazy.  My body would not turn off I felt plugged in and had involuntary muscle spasms.  They put me on Busbar, zoloft, & ambien all made it worse. Then put me on Klonopin.  It got me through the pregnancy. Immediatly after birth I felt better. No RLS, nausea, and I would get sleepy and go to sleep easily, still had very little appetite.  At 8 weeks my son was weened to bottle. At 6 weeks after birth and 15 pounds under my prepregnancy weight the trouble sleeping crept back. My OB prescribed Sonata It did not work.  My GP tested my thyroid (normal results) then started Klonopin again & Atenolol (for pounding heart) it helped for a short time. Then was reffered to a psychiatrist, he added Trasodone. This took awhile but I can usually get 5-7 hours a night. I feel tired all day regardless. I don't get sleepy/drowsey like I could fall asleep though. I constantly feel like I am plugged in. My muscles actually have little ticks or spasms all the time. If I try to take a nap or go to bed to early before my meds kick in, I can get to a relaxed state for a minute or 2 then I get a weird sensation, or a twitch, and then like a shot I'm wide awake heart pounding.  I do relaxation exercises again & again but I can't turn off, get sleepy and fall asleep.  During the day I can always feel the electric in my body. Some days I have absolutely no appetite and feel nausiated even at the smell of food. I feel hot then cold. I still can't gain any weight. My OB checked my estrogen & progest. levels, they were normal but suggested a low dose progesterone only birth control pill. I haven't started taking them yet. I met with a sleep study specialist who dismissed my symptoms and said I suffer from a some form of anxiety and thus no sleep study was needed. I have no history of panic, depression, and really have no mental symptoms of either as well.  Just these weird physical symptoms. I'm not sleeping in the same room as my husband for fear that he could wake me up. All my senses are on hyperdrive. Am I missing something?  Should I see a neurologist or endocrenologist. Do you have any suggestions? My son is 10 months today. I can't imagine living like this forever.

maybe you have something called Fibromyagia symptoms are lack of sleep and as a result muscles and joints hurt, depression, stomache problems ect. have your cortisone level checked and the doctor could order a test for your sleep to be sure. i have this and i have the same symptoms. i hope i spelled this disease correctly, but meantion it to a doctor. i take zolof and trazodone. i am also under a lot of stress and if it can be controlled it make this disease less side effects. i just started the medicine yesturday and is waiting for improvement but for now i have trouble staying sleep, my body hurts in certain points as if i were in a fight, my muscles are effected, i get dizzy and headaches, appetite decrease, anxiety (cant breath, heart paputations, fast heart rate, feeling over welmed with fear), i also feel like i have the flu, very fatigue even when i awake. these are Fibromyalgia symptons exactly and i am experiencing all of them. good luch nuha_el***@****

All I can tell you is I have the symptoms you describe.  On 7/24 I awoke to a terrible panic attack from my sleep.  Since then I cannot stay asleep.  I fall asleep sometimes for three hours, awaken, can't fall back to sleep, and if I do, I doze and I'm jolted awake and then I'm WIDE awake once again for a few hours.  Then I drift off.  Yada, yada,  It continues.  Have you found any answers????

Hi everyone, I was reading some of this stuff you guys write in .It's weid how such different people can go through such similar things.  This is a bad time for me to comment on anything because I am 4 weeks off celexa and I feel gross! The Zaps you read about from withdrawal ARE REAL! I almost took myself to the hospital today I can't keep my eyes open and Ia am more nasty now than ever! but this is what i want so i can't complain. The one thing I do know is a DR will give us somthing to "help" us with what we are feeling 2 years later i am on more medicineat 26 then most people are on at 60 these pills VERY rarely fix anything new things come up so we take somthing to help that and then thats ok but whats helping it is making me amotherway so give me somthing for that and so on so forth. the big problem is when you WANT TO or HAVE TO come off! i just watched my bestfriend screw her hole life up because of this **** .I am gonna try to take the world on med free!!! hope you guys could do the same good luck!

Basciallly the same as you.  All SSRIs in the beginning give the jittery side effect but is supposed to stop within 2 weeks on Lexapro.  I have not taken it so I can only go by hearsay.  I was prescribed Lexapro but I have decided to forego meds and work on it within myself.  I do however feel that if I chose to take it eventually, I am comfortable with the results I've heard from others.  Best of luck and I hope everything goes well for you.

My anxiety actually wakes me up at 5 am.  My job is very stressful - too much responsibility, but I couldn't be anything but the "boss".  And, I, too need the $$.  I spoke to my doctor yesterday and he indicated that I should expect good days/times and bad while I am ramping up.  He seemed to think that a good day this early in the medication schedule (5 days) was a good sign that the Celexa will work.  I am working on the anxiety with a therapist - it's slow go.  I woke up this morning thinking that the IBS I've been experiencing  since March could be a symptom of ovarian cancer.  I had a tv sono in November and everything was fine.  If I have it repeated, am I feeding my anxiety or being prudent?

Lexapro was one of the meds considered.  My doc seemed to think that Celexa was more "calming".  Five years ago I took Paxil (which he feels is most calming) and gained 30 lbs.  He seemed to think that Celexa would do it without the weight gain. I know several people with experience with Lexapro - some have no problems, other say it made them very jumpy/anxious.  It too does not have the weight gain issue.  It is my understanding that Lexapro is the new generation of Celexa.  What else do you hear?

Your welcome.  Glad I could help.  I have heard MANY great things about Lexapro.  If you plan to switch meds your doctor will direct you on how to wean from one to the other.  Just, my opinion, but while taking meds you should try to stay on the lowest possible dosage and to work on what might be causing the axiety.  You say you feel more anxious in the morning.  Is there something you dread doing that is causing the anxiety.  My job is pretty boring and I don't really like it but I NEED it so I tend to have some anxiety while I am getting ready for work.  I just keep going about my rountine and once I'm at work, the axiety is gone.  Hope this helps.  Good Luck.

Thanks for responding.  Your comments were/are helpful.  Yesterday I actually did feel better.  Today is not as great - I suspect I am more anxious in the morning when my dose is due...can this be so, or is it expectation?  What are the more "user friendly" SSRI's

Hey, can you tell me how you are weaning? At what amount do you taper down and how long do you stay at that dose when you make a new cut of the med?

I was put on 3 mgs. in December and just recently started cutting back at two week increments. I cut 1/8 of 1 mg. and wait 2 weeks to make another 1/8 cut. But I would be interested in knowing how you are weaning to help give me ideas if the way I am doing it is sufficient or I could possibly go a little faster.

Thanks

Most SSRIs take 2-6 weeks to kick in so I believe you can expect to feel this way for a couple of more weeks.  Most SSRIs cause more anxiety in the beginning so I would say that what you are feeling is "normal".  If in 2-4 weeks, these sides don;t go away you should speak to your doctor about it.  There are newer SSRIs on the market that are supposed to be more "user friendly" so maybe you can try one of those.  Hope this helps and that your sides go away sooner than later.  Good Luck!!!!!

Saw this web site and it sounded like me.  I started Celexa five days ago.  I don't think it's working.  Are my side effects anxiety or are they from the medication>  I am nauseous, my skin feels prickley, I am anxious and just not feeling well my throat hurts and my sinuses are conjested, i have no appitite and am not eating.  If these are expected side effects, when can I expect relief?  My doctor says its anxiety and to take adivan - feeling too dopey.  Afraid to go to work tomorrow.  Help.

Hi,

I am a 59 year woman who is suffering from multiple condtions and symptoms from being on Klonopin for 16 years for seizures. I have weaned myself off of all other meds and am ONLY still on Klonopin.

I also have weaned myself from 6 to 7 mg. of Klonopin down to 2 1/4 mgs. and, as I've read on a Klonopin withdrawal forum, now the weaning process must be done very very slowly and over time.

All of the symptoms I have read on the board being experienced by Klonopin users I have also plus about 75 more symptoms which are all listed on the forum from England that I am on which is made up of thousands of users, doctors, and nurses.  There is even an article called "Toxic Pyschiatry" on that site written by one of the doctors and is about Klonopin.

Now this is just my opinion and my experience along with the information that I have gotten from the forum I mentioned and I thought it may be helpful for others to read this.

Warmly,
Martha

The physical causes for this kind of hyper alert state have been partially ruled out, i.e. thyroid or hormone level change. There is always a remote possibility of some kind of pituitary or adrenal tumor having this kind of effect, and if that has not been ruled out(  it is very unlikely because of the duration and the history you give), then a neurological workup should be considered.  The most likely diagnosis is anxiety reaction, and a combination of psychotherapy and klonopin is what should be tried next.
