i'm presently being treated for dystymia/major depression. been on medication for three weeks now with no help at all. i bumped up my dose to 45 mg (remeron) on monday (dr. said to do so if i wasn't feeling better). i feel myself losing control, i cant wait much longer for this to kick in and give me some help. how long before we should try something else? is there ANYTHING i can do that may help until the meds do? i'm so tired of fighting it and feel like its a lost battle. i dont have much fight left.PLEASE ANY ADVICE? lilmo

Lilmo,
I tried to review your previous question posted on MEDHELP on 6/27/99, and I can only agree with the response provided by HFHS.MD-JM on 6/29/99. Antidepressant medications such as Remeron may take 2-4 weeks to begin to fully work, and as long as 6-8weeks for maximum benefits. If you have been on Remeron for a month or more with no benefit, discussing a change in antidepressant medication with your treating physician/psychiatrist is often helpful. Both cognitive and interpersonal psychotherapy are also particularly helpful with depression.
This response is for general information only. Always consult your physician for any health concerns.
