suicidal thoughts

Posted by need to know on August 01, 1999 at 13:16:16
i need to know if the acts of suicide can be carried out in a subconscious state of mind. as i seem to be resistant to treatment, i find myself more and more obsessed with the thought of suicide, and while i know in my heart i do not want to die, these thoughts seem to be forever in the back of my mind. is one always consciously aware of suicidal acts? or does the fact that i am awary that i do not want to die protect me from acting on these thoughts?

Dear need to know,
Suicide is a complex phenomenon assocoated with psychological, biological and social factors, Suicide may result from a desire to escape from a difficult situation or to hurt a person or an institution. Some have speculated that a genetic factor predisposes certain people to depression and to suicide.
Most commonly, suicide seems to arise from a depressed person's feeling that life is so unbearable that death is the only escape from great pain, terminal illness, financial loss, and other circumstances. A suicidal person experiences hopelessness, ambivalent conflicts between life and unending stress, with no apparent possiblities for change or improvement. These feelings are distress signals.
I would advise you to have a psychiatric evaluation to help you in your predicament.
