teenage son with multiple diagnoses

My 17 yr old son has been taking Paxil since he was 10 yrs old for social phobia and depression.  Two years ago he was tested and put on Concerta 54 mg for ADD.  He recently told me that he "counts in his head" and has other OCD behaviors.  He hasn't taken the Concerta for 2 weeks and there is no change in him.  I am a registered nurse and feel that his underlying problem is the OCD which is causing him axniety and distraction in school.  How do you convince a 17 yr. old that they need to be retested and probably treat the OCD instead of OCD and ADD?

I think you convince him with the facts as you have stated which are quite compelling. Also, anybody on this medications ought to be evaluated regularly rather than just continuing them as a habit....so, suggest a consultation, and re testing may not be necessary if that is what he is afraid of.
