weight gain on seroxat (paxil)

weight gain on seroxat (paxil)

I have been on seroxat (paxil) for over a year for panic attacks.  It really worked, but I have gained a lot of weight.  I am trying to withdraw from it, but without success, as the panic attacks just come back.  I have no problem about having to go on medication but I would like to know if there is a different medication to take that won't make me put on so much weight.

There are 3 other ssri type antidepressants that have anti-panic qualities and are not assosiated with weight gain. They are Zoloft, Prozac and Celexa. The usual way to make a change is to add one of these and then taper off of Paxil. Your doctor can help you with that.

I was on Prozac and I also had weight gain, a lot as a matter of fact.  I was put on Celexa and have not had as much problems gaining, but I still cannot lose the weight I gained while on Prozac.  I have researched and I found that even after going off SSRI's this problem seems to persist for an extended period.  You pretty much have to decide if you want to feel well or be thinner.  It is a very hard choice.  I have not tried Zoloft, so I can't comment on that.
