what is my problem

i have felt hopeless and trapped for about 6 years now but not enough to actually cause me to quit a job.  although i did flunk out of university last semester.  i just couldn't care enough for the amount of work it required.  i also think about suicide regularly and wish i had enough courage to actually do it instead of just cutting myself minorly.  ideally i don't want to hurt my parents who i know this would devistate but i also can see no other way out.  i also can't stop myself from obsessing over someone all of the time and everything i do or think about or feel is connected to this person in some way or another.

Dear  Janice,
From the information that you provided, it seems like you may  be having a Depressive  disorder or  Obsessive- compulsive disorder   or  possibly a personality disorder .A thorough clinical evaluation is needed before coming to a conclusive diagnosis. Self- destructive behavior( cutting yourself ) needs to be addressed immediately. If you think you are losing  control of yourself at any time,  you need to call crisis line or go to the nearest Emergency Room.
At this time, I would recommend that you have a comprehensive evaluation  by a trained Mental Health Professional for adequate diagnosis and treatment. For scheduling an appointment at  Henry Ford Hospital  Behavioral  Services, you may call  (248)-689-7476. This information is provided for general educational purposes only and should not replace evaluation by a physician.
Key words: Depression
