Aberrant Reaction to Sertraline

Aberrant Reaction to Sertraline

I am currently taking 50mg of Sertraline (Manufacturer: Greenstone) to treat some depressive symptoms. I have been on zoloft at varying dosages since 2004, and since then have been on and off the drug twice. Once last summer, and once this past summer. On occasion I forget to take my tablet and until last week, no effect was felt if I immediately started back on it. Last week I forget to take it for one day and then restart. The following day I end up being one of the most unpleasant people to be around, either because I was yelling at my mother or on the floor in tears. In addition, I've had this strange chilling sensation all over my body, I just cannot get warm, no matter how many layers, I'm just jittery. Small negative thoughts start linking together and then precipitate out until I'm practically in tears.

I don't know what is going on, but I figured this would be a good place to get some anecdotal advice from people who may have experienced something like this before. I can't help but feel broken some times. :(

You have come to the right place, we have been there, and care. Sertraline is Zoloft.  I think a big problem is being inconsistent with taking your medication.  It's very important that you take it every day, and never just stop it abruptly, as this can cause withdrawal symptoms.  You definitely sound depressed.  Try taking your medication faithfully every day for several weeks, and if you're not feeling any better go back to your doctor, preferably a psychiatrist as they are most knowledegable in this area.  The chills may be from something else, I have hypothroidism, and this was one of my biggest complaints went I saw the Endo.  Now after being on medication for my thyroid, I am no longer cold all the time.  This can also happen if you have very little body fat. Depression can make you feel so alone, sad, angry, and hopeless.  But there is a light at the end of this tunnel, and it will get better with proper medication and maybe some therapy.  Know you're not alone, and we're always here to support you.  Take care, it will get better.

i have chills right now too, i used to have them as bad as you, chills and shaking, when i took a high dosage of perphenazine, and at a different time when i had a urinary infection. many psychiatric meds have chills as side effects. until recently i was taking 20 mg geodon and 4 mg perphenazine and had mild chills. when my psychiatrist allowed me to reduce the 20 mg geodon to zero mg but still taking the 4 mg perphenazine, i started getting chills mostly in my torso/spine, but not shaking chills. i was on zero mg geodon/4 mg perphenazine for just one day and started getting chills. and when i took the 20 mg geodon back again with the 4 mg perphenzine i still had chills. now i am taking geodon 20 mg and will start taking zero mg perphenazine. since i already tried reducing the geodon and staying with the perphenazine and experienced chills, me and my psychiatrist decided i should stay with the geodon and stop taking the perphenazine. i've been taking these meds against paranoia, which i haven't experienced for like a year, even when reducing meds. i read on the web that both geodon and perphenazine can cause chills. maybe your medication causes chills too - be smart and check it out asap, dont waste time. your chills sound like a neurological thing, a side effect of your meds possibly. google search "sertaline chills" or "zoloft chills" or "sertaline side effects chills," "zoloft side effects chills" and see what you find. you must consult your psychiatrist immediately about the chills. your family pediatrician won't know about psychiatric meds side effects. you have to talk with a good psychiatrist. and be intelligent about it, research the web regarding your chills. just google search it. try to figure out which meds could be causing the chills. hope this helps. i am having chills right now, too, i feel ya - and i remember well when i had chills with added shakes, the shaking chills are the worst

p.s. i used to have paranoia, and i pieced A SH*TLOAD of mad crazy negative thoughts together, inventing conspiracies of my own murder that didn't exist. i'm telling you from experience, negative thoughts like that can make you suffer waaaay too much. be mentally strong and use the force of your own personality to fight off these obsessive negative thoughts which lead to no good. i mean being depressed or having doubts is normal, people who dont need or take psych meds feel those things too. BUT DON'T OVERDO IT AND DRIVE YOURSELF TO DELUSIONS AND INSANE THOUGHTS - DOING THAT TO YOURSELF JUST AIN'T WORTH IT!!!!!

you need to take your medication at the same time each day.  if you can't do this, then please end treatment.  you are causing withdrawal each time you skip zoloft.  50 mg is the beginning dosage of zoloft;  therapeutic levels usually at a max of 200 mg.

i devolped a twitching in my right eye, complained to my pdoc that maybe the abilify was causing it, she decieded to do a blood draw for vit.b12. sure enogh i was low way low. i started the shots which are not painful nor are the expensive within 2 days the twitching stop and not only that i felt so much better. i had to go from one shot a month to 2 because the twitching came back within 2 weeks.

i decieded to research this vit and sure enough if your too low it can cause a lot of psychiatic symptoms.
