I would like to leave a comment. I started gaining kilogrammes on abilify so my psychiatrist told me its not from the abilify. I also have heart beat and shaking everywhere my body. Also my hair start to drop. And also I cant concentrate- the problem is I have memory loss. I did some  blood test and my thyroid antibodies are not working properly, the other blood tests are not ready yet. Is it possible abilify cause thyroid problems or the drug is causing it not to work properly?
This is an old post, so you might want to start a new one.  No, it doesn't cause thyroid problems, but all antidepressants can cause weight gain -- it's one of the most common side effects.  What you're describing is a possible auto-immune disorder called Hashimoto's, but it sounds like the diagnosis isn't final yet.  Your psychiatrist sounds like an idiot, however, and I'm guessing if you go on the Abilify website it will list weight gain as a possible side effect -- it's on all of them.  I'm guessing some of your symptoms are from the Abilify, as it's a drug approved only for when all other antidepressants have failed to work, and if you do indeed have a thyroid problem, that can also be the cause of whatever drove you to the Abilify, as one of the symptoms of thyroid disease is symptoms of mental disorders.  And you need a different psychiatrist, it seems to me.

Hello,  I took abilify for five years, One thing is that when you take ablilify it is added with another medication usually, and i lost all of my hair while taking it but not because of they abilify, it was from the depicote or what ever-eles i took, but after i got off the depecote, my hair grew back my hair is growing now, but if you havent took it very long you may be having other side effects like the shaking, i will say that dose go away and you get very much better.. I love abilify, and i'm not taking it right now but it' one that takes some getting used to and then you can be normal with no side effects.

I hope your hair dose better, mine is going slow but it' comming and it was comming during the time i took the meds, Depekote is what did it for me.

Hair loss is not listed as a side effect of Abilify.  I would address this right away with an Endocrinologist, as it may be related to your thyroid which can also cause anxiety and depression.  Hair coming out in small clumps is a symptom of an underlying condition and blood work can determine what this is. Don't stop the Abilify, but make the prescribing doctor aware of what you're experiencing........Abilify makers request that we report any "new" side effects not listed and this could possibly be a new one. It can be anything from an hormonal imbalance to nutritional deficiencies.  An Endo can do very thorough blood work to determine what is going on.  Best wishes.
