Anti-Depressants

Hi everyone,
Ok so i just start anti-depressants today, never been on them before (never really been on anything except ammoxacilin when i was little little for strep throat, i hate taking meds so thats what makes it even harder to take these). Anyways, my doctor just put me on Bupropion, the generic version on Wellbutrin. I took my first pill this morning but im wondering...how do i know if and when its working? How fast will it work? How should i feel? Is anybody else out there on this or something similar that could help me out? Like i said ive never had a problem with depression until this past february and its to the point i cant take it anymore so that why i went to the doctor but im jist very confused. Im not really understanding how or when it will work. Thanks. Hope to hear from somebody.

I too am on buproprian and it took about 7-10 days of having it my system before I realized that I felt better.  You have to have a build up of the meds in the system for it to work properly.

In the 2 week period, you doctor will reevaluate your situation, see if there is any relief, how much relief, and adjust the meds accordingly.

Suggestion:  Are you seeing anyone regarding the reason for taking the antidepressant?  Personally, I think it is critical.  If you don't get to the root of the problem, you can't solve the problem.  Meds alone are like putting a coat of paint on the problem, and all of the rust and debris lives on under the new paint job.

Good luck.

Thank you so much! Yea he didnt really tell me anything except to come back in 2 weeks and see how I feel so i was just kind of like ok. But that did help though. I just wanted somewhat of an idea of how long they would take and that kind of stuff. Thanks again (:

I am surprised your doctor didn't discuss with you how long anti-depressants take to work.  I am not on the same one you have been prescribed, but over the 20 odd years I have had depression, have been on many different anti-depressants.

They all take about 3 weeks to start having any effect, sometimes longer.  Sometimes you feel worse before you feel any improvement.  You have to stick them out.  If you get side effects you cannot tolerate, go back to doctor, but give it a few weeks to get into your system.

I hope people who are taking the same medication can give you more information.  Looking it up on internet may help.

Hope you begin to feel better soon.  Keep posting here and tell us how you are getting on.

Take care
