Wow..it sounds like you have been through alot in the past two years. As a clinical social worker, your experience sounds familiar to me as a number of my clients have had frustrations with finding the right med, etc. Unfortunately, there is not an easy answer to this question. many people spend years trying several different combinations of meds until they find something that works. Also, is there a possibility you were misdiagnosed? That happens alot because symptoms of several different disorder in the DSM-IV overlap..sometimes a diagnoses is anybodies guess. If you were misdiagnosed, that affects what meds you're on, the type of therapy, etc. For example, if you actually have bipolar disorder, which often is first diagnosed as major depression, depending on how often you cycle, etc...you would need a mood stabilizer such as depakote. Also therapy can also be a process....sometimes it's tricky and you have to try different therapists until you find one that works for you. therapists are human too and just like any interaction you would have with anyone, sometimes you work well with people and sometimes you don't work as well with other people. I know it's frustrating, but hang in there andd talk to your doc about your concerns....if your doc (hopefully your seeing a psychiatrist and not a pcp) still doesn't seem helpful, etc, then get other opinions.
