Antidepressant w/drawal symptoms

by danette1976, May 09, 2007 12:00AM
Not a question but a posting to questions that I have read about the same topic. I really felt the need to post this but wasn't able to do a "post". I have just become familiar w/this site, read a lot of questions...wanted to reply. I was on Paxil many years ago (currently on Lexapro)- but when coming off of Paxil (weaned by a psychiatrist by 2mg/week for as many weeks as it took) I did great. But when I tried to quit it on my own, had massive side effects. All of which I read in the current postings...whooshing sounds, severe vertigo, nausea. Those to me are to be expected because when you are removing an antidepressant from your system, you are messing with the chemical balance of your brain. Anyway, found a great medicine that helps with all the side effects of w/drawal while you are trying to deal. It is called meclizine hydrochloride (same thing as dramamine). You can buy it at any pharmacy or Wal-Mart. Usually in the 12.5mg dose. I take half of one because it will make you drowsy. Feeling drowsy to me was better than the vertigo, etc. I also take this when I feel nausea or vertigo due to sinus or ear infections. Just so you know, EVERYONE I have ever talked to about w/drawal has had the same symptoms. Either it is because you are going to have them while coming off, or you will need to stay on a drug your entire life because of a chemical imbalance. The biggest thing is to see a psychiatrist for it and discuss in great detail.  Best of luck!!!

To: Can you get back to normall
I weaned myself slowly off zoloft and then everything hit  two months later.  Not the usual withdrawal, but depression, anxiety, not sleeping.  Have been back on zoloft but it isn't working.  Can you get yourself back after taking yourself off a drug?  Thank you.  I'm getting pretty scared.  Will withdrawals go away if you start up again on some medication?
