Anxiety/Depression

by Shannon Wyatt, Jun 22, 2007 12:00AM
To the group -- Folks, I have had anxiety now for about 2 months -- just recently I think I have developed a bout of moderate depression -- because of the anxiety.  My question is -- is it best to take an SSRI or a  Tricycle t ype of medication for both?  Someone told me that benzodiazapines, such as Ativan and Klonopin are bad for someone in a depressed state.  What do you think?

To: you...
I have anxiety, too (and depression and ADHD for that matter).  I take Zoloft and it is great for anxiety.  Since my depression mostly stems from the frustrations of ADHD, I take Strattera for that.  I would definetly go with an SSRI way before the tricyclids or benzo's (Ativan, etc.).  Benzo's have terrible withdrawls that I wouldn;t wish on my worst enemy, but I have to say they did help with my depression.  Hope that helps at all...
