Anxiety coming off Wellbutrin (generic)

So I was experiencing depression and anxiety so I went to see a psychiatrist. She prescribed me Wellbutrin and Vistaril....I was experiencing more severe anxiety after 4-5 days. I have decided to stop taking the pills. I don't think I can handle the idea of taking medication to help with mental issues. I think therapy is better for me. So i haven't taken my pill this morning and have been feeling major anxiety and hopelessness about my future. I was only taking the drug for 7 seven days, can this be a side-effect of the drug? I usually don't get anxiety for no reason...and I never feel this hopeless. Its like I can't dig myself out of this whole...everything looks bleak....no self-esteem....thoughts that I can't do anything with my life. Do you think its the coming off the meds?

Also, I was thinking about maybe coming off these two meds and trying to get a prescription for an as-needed benzo that I could just use if I was feeling terrible at some point. Anyone have experience with that?

Some times it takes a trial of meds to get the right one, but also reacting with anxiety may be an indicator of another mood disorder. Are you seeing a psychiatrist or your family doctor? If it's just your GP, get a referral, benzo's aren't the answer on their own, plus they can get addictive if you aren't careful.
