What do you know about BPD? I am on ProzacProzac Prozac weekly but don't want to take it forever. I am waiting for DBT but so are a lot of people. Is there anything else I could try? Sorry to ask lots of questions. I never been able to find anyone with answers
I would strongly advise trying psychoanalytical psychotherapy.
There are dbt classes on the net if you want to check them out. Yahoo health groups have a lot of different lists, etc that you can join. ***@**** is one. They also have a discussion group to talk about the skills.
You could try researching dbt or Marsha Linehan on the net.
In my opinion dbt only helps if the problem doesn't stem from very early childhood.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask. There is also a bpd community at medhelp if you want to check that out. Some find it helpful, some don't.
bpd? Affects 1-2% of the population. Most of those diagnosed are women. 75% of those who have been diagnosed with it have been sexually abused.
bpd is complicated and is different for everyone although the distress it causes seems common to just about all diagnosed with it.
bpd seems to have a lot to do with managing emotions -which people with the disorder don't do very well.
With bpd the personality is fragmented (meaning there are good and bad bits but not integrated bits (bits with both good and bad)). Because of the fragmentation there is a lot of anxiety which the person tries to manage by ?? usually binge eating, spending, speeding, being promiscuous, self-harming, etc.
Medication doesn't cure it only manages symptoms.
