CLONAPINE
I was reading the side effects of clonapine and was horrified. It said that strokes can be a side effect of clonapine. Also the drugs description said that it was only prescribed to schizophrenics. I am taking it for anxiety. At first it did wonders but I think the dosage needs to be increased. I really would like to get off of it but unfortunately i suffer from severe anxiety. I am also afraid that I will become addicted to it. I have know people that have had to go into the hospital to detox from clonapine. Drugs dont work for me anyway. They have tried so many combinations on me and yet I am extremely depressed and anxious most of the time. I dont even get brief periods where they work for a while. The only time that happened was with the clonapine and now thats not working. Does anyone have any advice for me or bad experiences from taking clonapine.

the right way of taking the drug depends on your problem of accepting the side effects from it which are quite enormous

And you should also tell your doctor about your depression reaction to the Klonopin. Perhaps that is the wrong med for you and then the doctor should help you to very slowly taper off of it. But when you have suicide thoughts, it still sounds like you need an anti-depressant.
You should talk to your doctor about your extreme depression. It sounds like you need to be on an anti-depressant, or if you are, then it needs to be adjusted or to be changed to a different one. You should never take more than you are prescribed. I have taken the lowest dose of Klonopin for the past 5 years and have had absolutely no more anxiety. But at one point, my depression got terrible due to chronic pain and no life. Just increasing my anti-depressant completely took away my depression. Please contact your doctor about your problems. You take care.
I take clonopin for anxiety.i also have in somnia.it helps with sleep.but i have to take more than prescibided.want to know zide effects of that.i know im addicted to them.but i need.if i stop i get exstreme withdrawls.i thik this drug gives me alot of thought of suiccide.just want to know if others feel same.....please comment if u have similar side effects
I take Klonopin frim time to time for my anxiety but I find that if I take it too often my depression starts to act up. I find that extended relrase xanax works best for me.

I took Klopin on and off. I don't take it daily but I keep a bottle handy for really bad days. The only problem I have with them is that I get depressed and irritable if I take it too many days straight.

i hope you feel better, I have side effects too. Life fatigue, but my cocktail combination has tremendously helped me. I am bipolar, with anxiety.....Thank God, I mean it, for these medications. I have been greatly helped. Thanking my dr., God and these meds....less pressure and stress are also helpful, plus exercise, swimming, lots of stretches, and yoga. I have added Yeshua to my list too, who gives me peace in time of troubles
My diagnosis is major depression but at the time I was very angry for appropriate reasons so my psychiatrist decided to put me on a mood stabilizer and said she was hesitant to use an antidepressant at the time. She is generally much more willing to listen to me but not this time. I objected to her putting me on the mood stabilizer. Now that I have calmed down Im having her take me off of it.
That medication is Trileptal which is a full mood stabilizer which would generally be used for straight bipolar ahead of an anti-depressent. Find out what your full diagnosis is as anti-depressents are sometimes used as adjuncts in a person with bipolar but have a potential to worsen mania. This is a complete list of mood stabilizers:

Thank you so much for clearing that up. Congratulations on your recovery from your illness and good like trying to clear up the side effects. I have just been researching the drugs Im on or drugs for treatment resistant depression. I just read about a drug that I think would be good for me call reboxetine. I have tried every combination of meds. Do you know anything about this drug. I just read an article stating that the combination of reboxetine and Citalopram which I just found out was Celexa has a high success rate in treatment resistant depression because it targets different chemicals in the brain. SSRIs have not worked for me. I am so desperate for some relief from this chemical imbalance. The only time I can remember getting significant relief is when I took MAOI inhibititors. My doctor was going to put me on these but then decided to put me on oxcarbazepin because I was agitated. She didnt want to put me on an antidepressant until I calmed down. You seem knowledable so any advice you or anyone else can give me would be much appreciated.
No the antipsychotic is called Clozaril (generic name Clozapine). The anti-anxiety medication is Klonopin (generic name Clonazepam). Two totally different medications. You are on the correct medication.

I'm concerned about what you said because I am on Clonazepam which I thought was the genric version of Klonapin and I dont have schizophrania
I take Klonopin and I pretty much tell people the facts about long term side effects but that information you got was wrong. I do have schizoaffective but that's not why I take it. Its a standard anti-anxiety drug. It does have a potential for a person for to build up a tolerance to it but I've taken it 10 years without a problem. All benzodiazepenes (anti-anxiety drugs in this class) have this potential but Klonopin is perfectly safe for long term use, in fact a lot safer than Xanax. It is true with myself that I had to increase the dosage a couple of times. Like any medication the dosage has to be titrated. And of course since its a medication that can be abused some people can become addicted but that would not normally happen when taken properly.
Regardless Klonopin is not an anti-psychotic so its use in people with schizophrenia is to control anxiety. If its not working for you speak to your psychiatrist but its not an anti-depressent. I wouldn't say medication doesn't work for you. You just need the right combination. For a good resource on anti-depressents and depression in general google "Depression Central" and hopefully the medication anxiety you are facing can be replaced with facts as that would help with your recovery.

Exactly, you have to weigh the pro's and con's of each medication you take. Look at several difference sources when deciding to take a med. I'm also in tune with my body, if's something weird, I will bring it up. You are your own best advocate :)
All drugs have side effects, I mean for all disorders. Like drugs for high blood pressure have side effects, you have to weigh it up.

BUT I have to tell you that the drug has been great for many patients dealing with anxiety, depression and bipolar and do quite fine within guidelines. I've personally been on ativan since July, and I take it when needed but only then, as my pdoc says, I'm judiscious :)
I can tell you that many benzo's are difficult to get off if not used correctly. Klonipin can be just as addicting as any other drug for similar uses. SSRI and SNRI's are horrid, simply horrid to stop like Cymbalta, it took me over 6 weeks to wean from 30mgs to nothing. So be aware of that when you are taking any SNRI.
Many folks, need medications to live, not just to get by, but live. I understand that you are angry and feel taken advantage of, but as long as there are illnesses there will be medications and drug companies. North America is definitely worse then other regions at advertising. Did you start the Cymbalta because of the claims that it can help with your pain receptors? There have been some studies now to prove it doesn't have a significant impact in that area, as well it can cause bipolar mania, as can Effexor.
Depression in most of it's forms are biochemical in nature, and certain drugs can rebalance the brain.It's very important to be well-educated when it comes to your therapy, you are the consumer. I would also be cautious about having a fear of medications, you are on Cymbalta which is not as "cracked up as it's meant to be" either, so be aware of both sides of the proverbial coin.
All meds have some side effects, but if kept within therapeudic doses most patients do just fine. . Since you didn't post what dose you were on I can't really say. I do have a great website that I consider a "bible" in a way. It has listing for every conceiveable med out there.

I was changed from xanax to clonapine. I was VERY ADDICTED to the xanax which was prescribed incorrectly. It is suppose to be PRN for panic attacks. Some quack put me on it 3 x a day. I walked out and got a new "shrink". She agreed that xanax is the WORST to get off of.
Now we plan to wean slowly off the clonopine. I also take CYBALTA but a small does of 20mg.
I am also HYPOTHYROID which everyone ignored till I jammed the blood test int heir faces.
We are a pill popping society. It is all about MONEY and the DRUG COMPANIES.

It sounds like you may have been reading about clozapine instead of clonapine? There are still many concerns with use and proper withdrawal of clonapin (i.e. benzodiazepine withdrawal syndrome look this up on wikipedia).

Think about getting into therapy in additiion to your medication regimine. If you don;t work towards the root of the problem you are only treating the manifested symptom.
i have severe anxiety with depersonalization and the best thats work for me so far is combo of clonopine and effexor
