Can I take 2 75mg tablets of Venlafaxine HCL (not ER) at night?

Can I take 2 75mg tablets of Venlafaxine HCL (not ER) at night?  What might be the problems with doing this?

My prescription says 1 at night, 1 in morning.   I had started this prescription 2-3 months ago and stopped because they made me very sleepy durng the day.  I'm starting again and can already feel the 1 75mg pill taking effect (I had stopped any antidepressants for 3 months but now determined I had better start again).  Thank You.

Your system may have adjusted to the generic Effexor enough that you won't get the drowsiness.  You will just have to try that.

You probably have to have insurance to get the special deal, which I assume that you don't.  If you go on-line to the Effexor website, they offer it for about $4.00 a prescription or at least did in the past.

My doctor was very concerned about me taking the 25 mg  in addition to my 75 mg of Effexor because the 25 mg didn't come in XR and she said that I would have blips in its effectiveness.  Instead she wanted me to up the dose to 37 mg of the XR instead of the extra 25 mg of quick acting medication.  Hope that you have a better outcome with taking one of them in the morning.

Better late than never!  I took both of your advice's and consulted with docter next time I went. He said fine to take both at night.  Unfor, there is no generic for the XR yet (or wasn't late Sept, 12). With the amount of stuff I take for FMS (depression involved), back pain and ADD, I have to have the generics if they're available.

I may go back temp. to 1 and 1 again.  Without the XR, does seem like I'd not be gettnig the full affect.  Then again, fat lot of good the effect does me if it puts me to sleep (during day).  I have enough trouble with that anyway!

Thanks for the advice. Joyce :)

Yes, I would also recommend that you consult with your doctor.  I would ask about taking the Effexor XR pills which are timed to last the full 24 hours.  So I wouldn't think in that case it should matter.  But be sure to tell your doctor about your sleepiness.  Maybe just reducing the dose could help you. I always took less than 150mg.

Do you mean you want to still take 1 in the morning  and then  2 at night, or  are you talking about takeing both doses at night?
If your wanting to just take both dosesbat night (which I assume its because you get drousy) I wouldnt advise doing so without asking your doctor who prescribed you the med. Your dosing times are so far apart, maybe taking both doses at night could over medicae you, im not quite sure what can happen but being that your original dosing times are so far apart, I wouldnt do it without asking the doc first just to be on the safe side!! :)
