Celexa...any comments??

I am a 23 years old female and today was diagnosed as having depression...i know that is it the "common cold" of mental health...but never thought it would happen to me.  i think i have always felt that i was depressed though so i guess i've been in "denial" for a while.  so now i have been prescribed Celexa and am very nervous and scared to take the medication.  Does anyone have anythign good or bad to say about the med??  The main side effect I am concerned about it the decrease in the sex drive and problems with orgasms.  Also -- Im not sure if I tell my boyfriend (been together for 10 mnths) I don't want him to think that he is doing something wrong...any advice or comments would be GREATLY appreciated -- thnx a bunches

I'm a male who was put on Celexa 3-4 months ago.  I experienced the sexual effects..well.. my desire for sex never left, but...orgasm with my wife was seemingly impossible.  We'd go for hours (she didn't complain) but I simply could not achieve, even in positions that always "do the trick".  Ultimately I was able to achieve manually (thanks to lots of lube) and I have to say (and others have said the same) that the resulting orgasms were spectacular.  I finally gave up on celexa as I didn't think it was really doing anything, and the final straw was one morning I just started crying..uncontrollably..could not stop.  2 weeks ago the doctor started weaning me off of celexa (though not alot of weaining is
necessary, and I am now on Zoloft which seems to be making a bit of difference though I suppose it's a bit early to tell.  I'm also taking ativan for anxiety.

How long have you been on it?  I'd give it some time and see how it works for you..I've read of a lot of folks where it    really did work for them and they were able to overcome
the sexual stuff.

good luck

and yes, tell your boyfriend (i'm sure he's noticed your depression).  I must abdmit that my wife was convinced it was her that was keeping me from reaching orgasm despite my showing her comments from other people with the same issue.  Hopefully you have an understanding/patient boyfriemd who will help you through this.BG

I have been on celexa for 6 years and it has been a life saver for me.I am bi polar and the depression side was making me suicidal.
I dont have any sexual side effects.I feel great and I have a great quality of life.
Now in the past I ahve stopped taking celexa and I never had anyside effects other than going back to the depression.I still have all my emotions just not with the extremes I used to get.
Try the celexa.it is better than being depressed.I used to be afraid to take meds but not anymore.I dont ever intend to be with out them  they have improved my life so much.I also see a therapist so between the meds and therapy my life is good.
Let me know how you are and how you do on the celexa.

Thanks for all the comments....

I still am very nervous about taking the meds but I am thinking that I may try it.  I did tell my bf and he doesnt see why I need to be on meds...but he will support me in whatever I decide to do.  I do not want to become dependent on meds.  I am not suicidal; i have had suicidal thoughts only 2-3 times in my life...reading that there are people who are on it and it does make a difference makes me curious has to how much it could improve my moods and emotions.

thank you again to everyone who left me a comment
