Constant Lies, I can't seem to stop

Hello;

I seem to have a problem with lying, it started around my third year of Uni, I would stay locked up in my room, not go to class and not interact with anyone. While this was going on I lied constantly to my parents.

Anyway, the Uni is on hold right now, but every so often I lie for no good reason, or forn stupid reasons. Just today I lied about a parcel I was getting to cover up how much I spent, even though my parents don't give a care about how I spend my money.

They are trying to help, but all I do to them is hurt them with constant lies, and my mom always finds out anyway.

If someone could help me with some kind of response it would be great.

Anyway, thank you,

Matt

This sounds more like compulsive lying (constant lying for no good reason) rather than pathological lying (constant lying for personal gain). Compulsive lying is a tough habit to break, and it can be a symptom of other mental illnesses, such as a personality disorder or OCD. If there is an underlying mental illness, the compulsive lying should ease when this illness is treated (with therapy and/or medication). If there is no underlying mental illness, therapy (especially cognitive-behavioral therapy) can be very effective in treating compulsive lying.

Hope this helps...
