Conversion Reactions

My father has many symptoms of depression. I can't seem to pinpoint what exact type of disorder he may have. The symptoms he has are compulsive lying, depression, lack of motivation and most importantly conversion reactions. He has serious conversion reactions frequently. He will usually lose sight in one eye and have severe weakness with either his right or left limbs. Also spends money or even gives it away. In other words, he will write a check for 100 dollars he does not have and not think about the consequences. he has tried to committ suicide many many times. He looks for sympathy from anyone who will give it. As for his compulsive lieing, The lies he tells are sometimes to hide the wrong he is doing but mostly just plain fabrications for no reason. He will not work. The times he has worked he will find a reason to quit or just stop all together. His family has a past history of different health disorders. His brother and son have comitted suicide. What disorder can I narrow his symptoms down to?

Sounds like he could have a conversion disorder but also sounds like it's a little more deep seeded and could be a number of things going on.  The best thing to do is an MRI to rule out organic diseases.  If everything comes out normal,  I would be getting him to a Psychological Assessment Agency so they can pinpoint the problem.  Also, know some medications can cause a person to gamble and all sorts of things they would not normally do.
