Cymbalta / weaning off to Effexor - pls help

by Jane'sMom, Sep 20, 2007 11:25PM
My husband is getting off Cymbalta to go back on Effexor (yes it's true) b/c in spite of the horrid side effects he felt much better overall on Effexor. In stepping off the Cymbalta he was told by his doc to take it ev other day for a week, (60mg) then start Effexor 37.5 daily for a week then 75mg. My husband skipped yesterday, and today is dizzy - like can't walk dizzy, slurring words, can't think / focus, chills, vomiting - it's horrible and my kids are terrified. Can he just start the Effexor? Is there a need to wait this out? We've called his doc and have not gotten a call back, guess this isn't their idea of urgent but he is at his worst now and I'm seriously contemplating taking him to the ER. Please, I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

I actually did the same thing in reverse.  I switched from Effexor to Cymbalta.  He should be able to immediately switch from one to the other with no problems as long as the dosage is correct.  I believe that 150 mg of effexor equals 60 mg of Cymbalta or at least that is what my doctor said. Good luck!
