Deliberately Choosing Unhappiness

Is there an ailment whereby a person deliberately avoids taking opportunities that will make them happy in order to remain in a state of unhappiness? This may be because the person seeks care and affection from others by demonstrating how sad their life is. How does one help this person? What can be done medically or otherwise?

I think that whoever you are talking about sees some fear about making a decision, because they are afriad of hurt which has been hapening to them anyway, so the decisions arent decisions, they appear to be other roads to unhapiness.

Yes some mental disorders are related with the rejection of seeking/seeing help and/or seeing good things in life that are facing them.

Borderline Personality Disorder, Passive-Aggresive and schizoid disorders are often related to a self-rejection of therapy and/or seeing the light out of the tunnel.
