Depression in children

Hey people,I'm a 17 year old girl & I suffer from depression & apparently bipolar disorder.. my mother doesn't think anything of it,she thinks I'm making it up or saying it to get attention when I'm really not.. I've been cutting myself since I was about 11/12 years old & I know that's not a good way to cope but that was always my solution,anyway! I understand I'm a teenage girl,meaning hormonal changes,mood swings,menstral cycles & all that good stuff for a young girl to feel alone & all around depressed.. But what do you think? True depression or teenage effects that everyone goes through??

The cutting is a good indication that more is wrong than just the usual teenage problems.  If your mom won't take you seriously talk to your school counselor, teacher or principal. You need to get help with this and the school will make your mom see just how serious this is.  If you have a relative you can talk to that would help as well. You need to nip this in the bud because it won't go away on it's own and may worsen with time.  There is so much help for you, so talk to someone who will aid you in getting help.  We're always here for you and keep us posted.
