Depression medicine not working

by jensue217, Aug 24, 2009 10:05AM
I am taking welbutrin for my depression. I havent seen a change in the way I feel. I am still depressed all the time and all I can do is cry. My doctor says that I need to give the meds time to kick into my body but I've been taking them for over a month. Is she right or are they just not working?

It does take time for these types of meds to build up in your system for you to see results.  However, by 4 weeks I would think you would be feeling somewhat better.  Maybe give it one more week and if you feel no better, you need to call your doctor, the dosage may be too low for you.

True these meds take several weeks to work, but I call BS on your doctors choice of using Welbutrin as a stand alone antidepressant to combat Moderate to severe depression.

Welbutrin is (this is in my opinion and direct experience) the worlds least effective antidepressant on the market. It makes a nice add on drug to other antidepressants, but in my 20 years of talking with people who suffer moderate to severe depression, NONE of them had positive results with Welbutrin alone.

Tell your doctor you need a real antidepressant that will work.

Welbutrin "sometimes" works ok for people with very mild depression that are upset because of some recient minor life situation.

To use only Welbutrin for severe Major depression. Forget about it. You would do better to take a sugar pill.

Sorry to be so blunt, but I must speak the truth and I don't want to see you suffer any longer than need be.

Is this a Psychiatrist that prescribed you this? My instict tells me no and that it was a regular MD.

Yes, see an expert on AD'S like a psychiatrist bc Ive never heard success on Wellbutrin, maybe Effexor, Celexa, and Lexapro these are awesome..but we all have different bodies and needs..dont worry , give it time and if you still see nothing simply switch..in the end you will find something that works
