Desperate

Liver shut down in June and I was taken off all antidepressants, pain meds, sleeping pills, and anxiety medications cold turkey. After withdrawal coped well for a couple months but now am feeling the shattering. Can't go on pretending to be a character on other people's stage. Docs won't prescribe meds that might damage liver. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Since regular meds hurt your liver and you cannot afford that any more I would try a homeopathic doctor. They do not give"medicine" everything is natural and will not harm you as it is from nature. also I would look into acupuncture. I know it sounds weird but I have a very close friend she is like a sister to me. She has very bad health and cannot take meds either. She does these things she goes once a month to a homeopathic Dr and twice a week to the acupuncture. Also she is seeing a all natural nutritionist. With this combination she is doing very well her depression is under control her physical ailments although are still there but are easier to control and manage. I hope this helped. God bless you.

I'm not aware that all of these meds are liver damaging, though all medications are liver toxic to a degree because it's the liver's job to take a close look at anything the body takes in and all medications are unnatural to it.  For example, tricyclics and snris are known to be liver toxic, but I'm not sure ssris have a high degree of liver toxicity.  I'm not expert on this, but I'm also not aware of all sleeping aids being liver toxic.  Not sure about benzos either.  I'm sure your docs are much better informed than any of us, but it might have been the particular meds you were on, not necessarily all meds in this category.  There are also natural remedies which are harder to use as they require combinations but most are not liver toxic.  Obviously you are in a dire condition with your liver, so it might be this is how it must be, but at least you should investigate if it was just the meds you were taking or are we all taking highly liver toxic meds without knowing it?  (Snris such as Cymbalta for example, weren't considered liver toxic by psychiatrists and probably still aren't, but they turned out to be when the manufacturer applied to the FDA for approval as a pain med -- the supervising committee found several deaths due to liver failure and other cases short of death from the drug, so it could be we just are being lied to again and they're all toxic to a degree more than our psychiatrists, lazy docs that they are generally, just aren't learning about).
