Does antidepressant cause tinnitus?

Hi,

I took 10mg of cipramil for 10 days 5 months. Apart from the unplesant side effect, I had loud tinnitus from the medicine. I was told to stop the medicine after went to the hospital several times for the side effects. I have stopped the medicine for 5 months now and I don't think I have depression at all. My insomnia trigerred by the medicine has also revovered. However, my tinnitus did not go away. Did anyone has the same experience? Is there any cure for the tinnitus or how long will it take to go away?

Thank you for your input. Celexa is another trade name for Cipramil. They have the same chemical composition. I was on 10mg of Cipramil for only 10 days and I have stopped for 5 months already. I have not be on any other antidepressant since then. The loud ringing sound is still there.

You mentioned that you were on 20mg of Celexa. How long were you on this medication? Did you switched to another antidepressant or did you stop taking altogether? Is there anymore ringging sound in your ears.

Thank you for your input.
Many people have tinnitus for different causes. Some people may not notice it bacause the intensity may be very low. I am very sure that my tinnitus was trigerred by the antidepressant. I started having loud tinnitus few hours after I took the first dose of Cipramil and it had been there since then even though I just took the medicine for 10 days and I have already stopped the medicine for 5 months. I understand that many doctors said there is no cure for tinnitus. However, some argue that it can be reduced. I had light tinnitus before but it did not bother me. With loud tinnitus, any background sound does not help much.

With antidepressant as a trigger point, I believe it could be reversible or at least reduce to the prevoius level.

Many websites claim to be able to treat tinnitus but how to tell which is credible?

I have tinnitus although i am not sure if its related to my medication or stress. It started probably over 5 years ago and it comes and goes in intensity. some times it is much more noticeable and annoying that other times. I am sorry i cant tell you how long it will last, or weather it will get better over time. i was told there is not cure and no real treatment. which isn't much fun for us, there are a few things that help keep it minimal, such as leaving a radio on for back ground noise.

Maybe try Google treatments and find out more tips for helping it.
