EMSAM patch effectiveness

by spooky tooth, Jan 20, 2007 12:00AM
I have been using the EMSAM patch 6mg for over 4 weeks and
have not felt anything. My doctor wants me to wait 2 more
weeks before increasing to 9mg. Should I be feeling some
effect now? Do you think I have a chance that the patch will work? I did have success with Nardil many years ago. After 7 yrs it stopped working. I have atypical depression and am resistant to all other anti depressants.
I am thinking about trying Nardil again if the patch is
unsuccessful, since I have not taken it for over 10 years.
Do you think Nardil will be effective once again?

Not sure you are aware of the Nardil reformulation which is ****. It began in the removal of many of the inactive ingredients and hard shell coating. This occurred after Parke Davis was acquired by Pfizer. I have been on-line and on the phone with them all week and wrote the FDA. 10 minutes later Pfizer called me wanting to replace my bad lot number. What a coincidence! This is the main problem with the new Nardil which has never worked as well as the old I began taking since 93. It was amazing, like someone turned on a light switch! Just had to deal with side-effects which were much better than living with atypical depression along with some other things. I tried EMSAM and got little relief at 6 mg. At 45mg Nardil I have no relief either. Have to take the max 90mg. Possible if you got to 12 mg EMSAM it could work. I'm going to find out, can't take this unreliable Nardil any longer. Call it the yo yo effect. If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me. Brian

Hey luther23, Question? At one time did Tri-cyclic and teta-cyclic meds ever work for you?

I mean I know they don't now, but at some point in your life did they work for a while?

Been 17 years now for me on various meds (Never MAOI's) and it's like with every passing year I build up more and more resistance to AD meds.

Like my body is saying, "yea right pal, we know this combination and we can kill it before it even helps you."

Maybe just after so many years on SSRI's, SNRI's, and Tri and Tetra cyclics, I have just built up some super human resistance to these less envasive treatments.

It's like every year, I get less and less effectiveness from them and I have to keep changing and combining. Shesh! I'm so tired of trying to stay one step ahead of my severe symptoms.

Any thoughts?
