Effexor Withdrawal

by chemosabi, Dec 22, 2007 02:43PM
I had been on 300 mgs of effexor xr for about a year.  It wasn't working.  My Doc switched me to cymbalta starting with a low dose and advising me to withdrawal from the effexor on a weekly basis, reducing the mgs of the drug 37.5mgs per week.

Two weeks ago my vision got really bad.  I was driving at night and realized I couldn't see the road signs, much less the street signs.  My reading sight does not seem to be impacted, only my long distance vision.

I just read about all the eye diseases one can get from effexor withdrawal and I'm scared to death.  I will of course go to the eye doctor right after the holiday, but in the meantime, is there anything I can do to stop/prevent this?

I am currently on 75mgs per day and 6- mgs of the Cymbalta.  When I called my psychiatrist, she said to stop reducing the effexor, stay on both drugs until my appointment January 3.

Any suggestions?

Do as the psychiatrist says - stop reducing the Effexor and stay on both drugs until your appointment.  I expect (and hope) that the reduction of Effexor has just been too fast.
