Effexor to Zoloft

by Moo123, May 07, 2009 10:41PM
Becuase I lost my insurance, I asked my dr to switch me from Effexor to something I could obtain from the Walmart pharmacy for $4.00.  He gave me a script for Zoloft, which I found out is not $4.00 and they wanted to give me Prozac instead.  I just opted for the Zoloft so I wouldn't have to wait any longer ( I had already been 2 days without the Effexor).  Which would be smarter, switching to Zoloft or Prozac?  I have been on the Effexor for almost 5 years.

Only main problem I see with that switch is that Zoloft only effects Serotonin in the brain, wheras Effexor effects both Serotonin and Norephineperine.

Try it, but this lack of norephinepherine from the Zoloft may not be as effective.

You do know that they now make a generic form of Effexor XR that is much less expensive than the name brand? Perhaps that would be a more wise choice.
