Effexor withdrawals?! WTF

by Chrissylynn324, Apr 07, 2007 12:00AM
I'm sorry for the subject line but i am scared now.. i have been taking Effexor for a while now and it is really helping me out alot.. i didnt know about all of the side effects until today and i am worried about when i try to get off of them. i have noticed that when i am late on a dose i start to get cranky and nervous.. (hence i remember to take the pill ) but i have been reading that these symptoms can continue for years after cessation of the drug.. are there any actual ways to get off of it without losing your mind?

The whole Idea of the efexxor is to make you feel better. Are you ablee to function normaly now?I am bi polar and the hardest theng for us bi polars is stay on our meds when we start to feel better  but in fact that is what is making us feel better.Same wiht depression.Unless you exhibiting some of the side effects continue to take your med  and if you do develope some died effects get to your doc asap.Untill then just go along with feeling better .
I know when I first started feeing better it was kinda weird because I hadnt felt goo dfor such a  long time.My thereapist said I didnt know what normal felt like .I do now and it is great!!
depression is a disease like diabetes. There is someting missing in our chemical makeup and the meds  fill in what is missing.
Let me know how you are doing.

I agree with the other post.  Why mess with a good thing if it is working.  I recently came off effexor and expericened little to no side effects.  I was told it was the hardest one to come off of, and I think by my shrink putting that idea into my head, I ended up suffering some.  I had previously gone off it before and didn't have any side effectsz then.  I do think if you are truly worried about it, change to another drug, but don't go off all together.

Antidepressants are not bandaid, they are there for the long haul to make sure you keep feeling the way you are.  Pull the band aid off and the cut opens up again.  (speaking from experience).  My mom-in-law is another perfect example.  She has suffered for years with severe depression, goes off the drug because she is feeling better and always ends up back on something, but they are losing their effectiveness.  She is truly miserable and most days doesn't even get out of bed.

So I would think long and hard about things like that because life is very unredictable and can hit you with something hard at anytime you are not suspecting it!

Hope that helps some!  Good luck.
