Be careful because Effexor XR only has a shelf life of about 2 years if kept at room temperature. Beyond that time it will lose it's effectivness. Even less shelf life if stored in a cold are hot environment.

Beyond that, I can in a way understand you shame of wanting to hide your illness of major depression. I am a man (also long time sufferer) and in the begining very long ago when I was diagnosed I was horribly shameful.

I felt like I must have been weak or of poor charictar to have such a problem. Lets face it, us men don't just want to expose to the world that we have a mental illness.

Yup, I said it "mental Illness." That's what Severe depression is and the sooner you accept that fact the better you will feel. I'm not ashamed anymore. My friends know and all my family knows. Of course my Psychiatrist knows.

Honestly after so long suffering I don't give a damn about what people think. You see, I don't expect people to understand and you feel that they should or never could. On the other hand (while I used to feel that way) I know say; "Yes, I have chronic depression and anxiety and if you have a problem with it then kiss my ***."

Major depression is not a sign of weakness or stupidity, nor a lack of inner strength or charictar. It is an illness like any other and requires treatment to get it in a remissive state. (notice I say remissive state and not cure) For me at least I know a cure is not possible.

Some of the most powerful men today and in history were and still are severe depression sufferers. Did you know that it is statistical fact that depression sufferers have, by in larger a much higher IQ than non-sufferers? It's true. Most are VERY strong willed people that do not suffer personality dissorders. People like Einstien, Lincoln, Buzz Aldrin, Harrison Ford (actor), Mike Wallace, Winston Churchill, the list goes on and on. Yup.. Every one of them has taken medication or still is for severe depression. Many were very bad and even had to be hospitalized due to suicide attempts.

Weak people? I think not. I was a champion Body builder, when at age 24 I was hit by very severe depression that almost resulted in my death. Guess what? My life was fine at the time, no stress, happy, lost of friends and women. Doesn't matter dude. It's a disease and you can't just wish it away. Think of it as a beast that wants you dead. That's how I battle it. It's a beast and it wants me to kill myself, but I **** it off because I refuse to let it win and I have ammunition to shoot back and an army of professional support to back me up.

I'm just saying it's nothing to play around with and if self preservation is an instinct you hold dear, then I urge you to be pro-active and FIND HELP FAST.

The first step to the road to recovery with Chronic severe depression is acceptence. You must accept it as a problem and work like a hungry Lion to seek and get proper treatment. The best your money can buy, That means a top notch Board certified Psychiatrist that you see EVERY 30 days and a damn good Psychologist.

I have a link to a very good Harvard Med study called "understanding depression." It is a tell all, easy to read book designed for loved ones of depression sufferers so they can better understand the disease in a way they can grasp. It is easy to read and explains all aspects and forms of depression and anxiety along with curent and upcomming treatment options.

So what do you do?
(1.) you first get in to see the best Psychiatrist you can for treatment.
(2.) you get the literature I told you about to use as a tool to discuss with your family.
(3.) You find acceptence in your heart that you have an illness and it can be treated.
(4) You stick with the treatment.
(5) Don't try to treat it yourself (been there done that and I telling you it doesn't work)

The strong ones accept it and work to get it treated. The weak people stay in denial and often get worse. Don't be one of the weak. Knowledge is power.

Why are you hiding anything from your doc? He is just an employee of the medical system, so how do you view him that makes you hide?

What is your history, since you had left-overs?

Write back. Your story is interesting to me since I tried hiding it from my hubby, but he figured it out within months. Maybe the jumpiness from the Wellbutrin, maybe the full Celexa pill bottle that my kid found after they fell out of my pocket and sat in the snow at minus 20 C. Tell me why you are hiding it from your wife and I will tell you why I tried to.
