Emsam Patch

Hello everybody...New here so please try to be positive (:   I'm getting ready to start the Emsam patch for my 2.5 year battle with Depression.I've tried every SSRI with pretty much no help.I've been VERY fortunate to have been taken as a patient by a very well known,very famous in the field,Pharmacologist who says "enough is enough" and is putting me on the Emsam Patch to in his words "Knock this out".That's great,but people with experience on the med are the ones I need to talk to.Please again try to be positive if you can,but I can take it.Anyone out there? I LOVE my family and want to live soooo badly.Will the Emsam help?  Thanx in advance even for the smallest encouragement or inspiration.I kinda want to know what to expect at first.One of my biggest problems now is sleepiness 24/7...Any way thank you for the long read........Rocky

Hi Rocky I am depressed and homebound for 6 years , tried paxil but it gave me constipation and night sweats . With Emsam 6 mg patch I had no stomach issues , it gave my libido back , increased energy and good mood . However after on it for 2 months I started developing paranoa / physcosis mostly due to lack of sleep . Emsam also made my bronchitis worse . So stopped it completely . Insomnia is very severe with Emsam but I don't know , everybody is different , keep an open mind and see how it works for you . until you tried it you wouldn't no and go to askapatient.com and search for reviews there , I have seen 13 emsam reviews so far on that site . Dr Burns book "THE FEELING GOOD HANDBOOK" has also helped me . Remember always combine drug therapy with cbt and talk therapy . Don't worry you will feel better soon I can see that .

how strange. i just got on here to see more about emsam. my dr. gave me the phamplet to read. my concerns are maybe eating something i shouldnt and have back reactions or whatever. it happend to me once before where a drug dosage was increased and my legs gave out totally 1 day without any notice and i was like that for 2 days. so trying new drugs kina scares me especially with all the side effects that emsam can have. but like you, 2 plus yrs and really no improvement. feel very alone with my illness and want to try anything that might work

Don't know this med but dug up a couple of links for you to read. The Rxlist one has a pile of user comments there which is useful. Both good and bad. Here they are :

There do seem to be a lot of risks with this one but then again a number of people say it worked well. SO why not? Just be careful OK.
