I updating my question. I am wanting to get off effexorEffexor Effexor xr 375 and wellbutrinWellbutrin Wellbutrin sr Wellbutrin xl 300 ... There has been a suggestion that siroquil (?) be added at night. I think this is just another something I will have to get off of. I am so confused ... In two weeks I will know what route I will take. I am very concerned about this process .... Thanks
Seroqual is a good anti-anxiety/manic drug - in my personal experiences, this has been the best drug so far to calm my mind down, and I have a hard time shutting my brain down at night, my anxiety is at it's worst then. If you suffer from chronic depression, it's not a good idea to stop meds, they may need adjusting or get moved over to a different class of drugs. I personally didn't do well on either of those drugs, I got a lot more anxiety as a result. There is another class of drugs called Mood Stabilizers, you might want to mention that to your psychiatrist when you see s/he next. What is your diagnosis? I'm rapidRapid shallow breathing cycling Bipolar2 as well I have MajorMajor tears Major-gesic Depression for more fun. There are a lot of different options, so don't lose hope if you are having probs with those two.
Taking both effexorEffexor Effexor xr and wellbutrinWellbutrin Wellbutrin sr Wellbutrin xl at the doses you have indicated may in fact be causing some feelings of anxiety (or at least of being a bit wound up). The reason is that both of these medications are, among other things, norepinephrine (sometimes called noradrenaline or "NE" in the literature) reuptake inhibitors. Effexor starts to increase NE reuptake inhibition at or above 150mg/day; wellbutrin may start NE reuptake inhibition at quite low doses.
Since NE has a wide variety of effects upon different parts of the central nervous system (and brain especially), the combined dose might be a bit much for you. I find that 375mg/day of effexor means I don't sleep much. Getting these things right is a dark art I'm afraid.
BTW, the combination of effexor and wellbutrin is in some ways much like a synthetic tricyclic antidepressant, in the sense that all three of serotonin, NE, and dopamine neurotransmitters are affected by effexor (S 150mg/day) and wellbutrin (NE + D). Perhaps some consideration of a tricyclic might be worthwhile if the current combination doesn't eventually do the trick.
Allow me to clarify my previous comment about my not sleeping much when on effexor 375mg/day. When taking lyrica as well, I sleep a lot during the day and can sleep fairly solidly at night - just not at a consistent time every night. Seems that lyrica's sedative effect on me trumps effexor's opposite effect. Damn meds.
