Xanax that includes the active drug Alprazolam provides a quick relief from the symptoms of anxiety and stress issues and panic disorder keeping track of comfort from stress connected with average depression disorders. Usually Xanax Alprazolam is used as brief term treatment.
I'm guessing the Xanax is your problem. I'm sorry you are going through this.
I'm assuming you have a psychiatrist, you say therapist, but therapists aren't qualified to prescribe meds -- only a doctor can do that if you're in the US.
The fact your doctor retired doesn't relieve him or her of the responsibility of making sure you continue on your meds. You have to contact your doctor and if necessary if it comes to that threaten legal action if he or she doesn't refill your prescriptions until you find another psychiatrist. This is clearly malpractice, and dangerous. You don't say how often you were taking Xanax, but that's the more likely source of immediate withdrawal problems if you were taking it regularly. Prozac has a fairly long half life in the body, so withdrawals don't usually occur until a while down the road, though individuals differ, but benzo withdrawals are terrible and immediate. The first step I'd recommend is contact your retired doc and make sure you get enough of your meds to tide you over and I'd get a recommendation from him either for another doc or a temporary doc who is taking over his patients. Your pharmacy might help you with this. Good luck.
iv gone through the withdrawals as well . i wish you all the best and a big big hug!
I've gone through withdrawls too from running out of a med. it's awful. I hope you don't suffer too much. Huhs
