The links page on the bipolar forum (might be for other forums too) has links to websites that might be helpful in understanding medications. Just google "Depression Central" and you'll find that one. Thanks.

If its an issue of benefits coverage I could provide you some information. As for what medication to take what medication works for one person may not work for another. Also anti-depressents don't treat bipolar well (mood stabilizers do) and sometimes a person with bipolar only talks about their episodes of depression. You might speak to your psychiatrist about exactly what's going on. The links page has some good info. on different medications and how they work. "Depression Central" is a good site. I would put it this way. You know that you will have continuing episodes of depression if you don't take medication. You don't know if a particular medication will work. But eventually your psychiatrist will find one that will. Just think of it that way. Work with them to find a good solution.

I am not advocating you take Celexa. I merely used that for my personal example, partially to give you some hope that a solution may exist.

Is there a chance you can go to another doc? Is that woman your personal / family doctor? Can you afford a psychiatrist, which is far better than a regular doc?

Well I was taking all days, same times as she told me to do, but she never said me to take more dose than normal, I should try Celexa, if I go again to the doc I know that she will say that continue take pills, and every hour that she told me that cost me a lot of money... and always the same things hehe...

The doc may be right that you need the medicine, at least until life becomes more normal and happier. The medicine is not something to fear, but depression is. The longer a depression continues, the more it tends to pull you down to lower depths, which makes it harder to pull yourself back up (without meds) to normality.
So think of the meds as a temporary booster for your system that helps you remember what it was like to be happy, (if they work). Or you may need to take them for a long time, but that doesn't matter, since depression is so powerful that any relief is a good thing. I loved every minute on Celexa, and hated every minute of depression, so I hope you can get relief too.
So you took Prozac for 3 months, saw the doc again and she said to continue and 3 months later you gave up on Prozac? I agree with that decision, but you needed to keep trying others, and without a break, until one works. I am surprised the doc didn't change your dose or your med after 3 months. Did you take it every day?

I wanted to quit Wellbutrin after months of daily agony since it wasn't working very well. I was so used to unhappiness that I told doc that I didn't want to take the new med Celexa, (on its 3rd day which was too early to get an effect) and felt strong enough to get back to normality on my own, since the Wellbutrin had been a poor relief until 4 pm then terrible grey depression would roll in at 4 pm until I got to sleep. Doc said no way, you can't do it alone, and a while later the Celexa kicked in and I was happy again.

Write back, at least to answer my question.

Thanks birdie0907 for supporting me, well after three months I went back to my doc, and she said that I still have to take same medicines, and after some more months I quit taking those because I feel like it doesnt make me any effect after all and I feel very bad, I know that I should not only depend on those medicines, I try made things like make some exercise, go out somewhere, read and so... but I feel nothing change, I should try another medicine but Im not sure what medicine I can take without prescription like proxac, I dont want to go back to the doctor because this is the second time I change the doctor and the result still the same.
About my homepage yes, after some exams doc said that I got major depressive and I feel that, years ago I try overdose with any pills that I found but was a fail as you see hehe...

I see you list that you are major depressive on your home page. Is that how you are feeling, or is it a diagnosis from a doc?

After 2 months you were receiving the full benefit of the med. You should have reported back to your doc and had him change your dosage or try another one.
I was unable to get relief from Wellbutrin and despaired that I could ever be happy again (in fact I doubt I even wanted to be happy it seemed so far away) but Celexa worked very well and after a while I was able to quit and am med free today. There is no guarantee as some people do not respond as well, but you should try again. It is not unusual for a person to try a number of them before finding the one that works with your brain chemistry.

See your doc, or a psychistrist if you can afford one as they are better. There is hope. Write back.

Before I go further, what medicine did you take, and was the dosage ever increased? There are lots of new meds, and because everyone is different, so what works for one may not work for another.

I feel i'm in a similar boat.  I noticed that I have to try hard not to disappoint my children.  This forum should be an every morning thing for me so I have the support I need to go on in the day.  Most family have used my help in excess.  I am burnt out to do my own things.  There have been deaths, illnesses, and now work from my  Mother since my Dad passed away that has me always a slave to others.  I am one of those people that has never had her own life.  Any attempts were always put down.  Somehow I see my children trying to strive and do well.  Without anyone holding them down, they seem to be doing well.  Maybe you are not happy where you are and don't see it?  To get motivated is hard when you don't like what you are doing.  Are you feeling healthy?  Have you had a check-up lately?
